Elektrolaboratoriet A/S was founded in 1949 by Mr. Leo Nielsen. From the beginning the company was dedicated to developing and manufacturing temperature indicators with thermocouple probes for use in hospitals and in the pharmaceutical industry.

The logo / brand name "Ellab" was used from the very beginning to identify the company and its products.
