For many years, Ellab A/S has been considered one of the leading suppliers of validation solutions for applications in the Food, Pharmaceutical and Medical industry. When validating various process equipment for applications such as sterilization, depyrogenation or batch retorting, it typically consists of 2 steps: Heat Distribution Test and Heat Penetration Test.

Heat Distribution Test
Is used to determine whether an adequate temperature distribution is being achieved during a process. This is to ensure the delivery of a scheduled batch by finding the slowest heating locations. Performing temperature distribution studies on a regular basis should also be considered due to the mechanical nature in which temperature distribution is achieved. 

Heat Penetration Test
Is used to determine the heating and cooling behavior of a product/package combination in specific process equipment to establish a safe thermal process and evaluating any process deviations. The general idea, is to locate the “cold spot/zone” in the product/container to ensure that all products receive the appropriate amount of heat.
